Daily Itinerary

Day 1 August 5 - Wednesday – Depart USA

Transfer to airport in USA for check in and fly to Ghana.

Day 2 August 6 - Thursday – Akwaaba – Welcome!

Arrive in Accra, Ghana. Transfer from airport to your hotel. Check in to your hotel. Overnight at La Palm Beach Hotel. Meals Included: Dinner with cultural performance.

Day 3 August 7 - Friday – Accra City Tour

After breakfast, depart for a sightseeing tour of Accra. Drive through the administrative and economic districts of Accra, the capital of Ghana. This 137-year-old city has a blend of colonial and modern architecture that summarize her history. Visit the W. E. B. Dubois Centre for Pan African Culture, the Independence/ Black Star Square and Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. End your tour at the Arts Centre where you will have an opportunity to use your bargaining skills to shop from an open-air market for artifacts from Ghana and West Africa. Overnight at La Palm Beach Hotel. Meals Included: Breakfast and Dinner.

Day 4 August 8 - Saturday – Village Naming Ceremony – Aburi Botanical Garden

After breakfast, depart your hotel for a scenic drive to a beautiful village located on the lower course of the splendid Volta River. You will have the opportunity to pay a courtesy call on the paramount chief and elders amidst traditional drumming and dancing by the villages, and also participate in a naming ceremony, where you will be given a traditional African name. Other activities include watching or playing soccer with the kids at the village. Afterwards, visit the Aburi Botanical Gardens. This eco-paradise was created in 1890 for pleasure and scientific research. It is a habitat for plants and butterflies from all around the world. At the end of the trip, return to Accra and relax. Day 5 August 9 - Sunday – Church Visit and Donation at Christ the King Parish Soup Kitchen

After breakfast, depart the hotel and attend a church service in Accra. Afterwards, visit the Christ the King Parish Soup Kitchen. It was initiated by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Andrew Campbell in response to the Holy Father, Pope Francis’ declaration of 2016 as Jubilee Year of Mercy. His ingenuity was supported by the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC). Christ the King Soup Kitchen since its inception has become a resource for the homeless and poor. The project provides free breakfast meals, clothes, toiletries, and creates a sense of belonging for the beneficiaries to become part of a community. Overnight at La Palm Beach Hotel. Day 6 August 10 - Monday – Day Food Tour

Depart early morning to enjoy a local Ghanaian breakfast at one of our most recommended restaurants. After breakfast, take a walking tour of James Town, Ghana’s oldest suburb set on the coast of downtown Accra which boasts a fascinating history and vibrant local community. Watch women prepare and smoke fresh fish that was provided by local fishermen. This is an opportunity to observe how smoked fish is made locally and try your hands in this process. Later, experience a shopping adventure at a market in Accra in preparation for a cooking class. After shopping, depart for a short cooking class of Ghana’s famous jollof rice. Later enjoy an array of traditional cuisine in one of the finest local restaurants in Ghana. Overnight at La Palm Beach Hotel. Meals Included: Breakfast and Dinner.

Day 7 August 11 - Tuesday – Cape Coast Castle, Elmina Castle, Posuban Shrine

After breakfast, check out of the hotel in Accra and depart for Cape Coast. Upon arrival, embark on a tour of the infamous Forts, Castles and Slave Dungeons of Ghana. History will unfold the story of the slave trade which the impact is still felt beyond the shores of Africa today. Visit the Cape Coast Castle built by the Swedes in 1653 and was later taken over by the British. This castle also houses the West African Historical Museum established by the Smithsonian Institute in collaboration with the Ghanaian Government in 1994. Afterwards, visit the Elmina Castle built by the Portuguese in 1482 and also known as St. George’s Castle. This castle was the first European structure built in Sub - Saharan Africa. The colourful harbour nestled below the Elmina Castle, full of pirogues preparing to go to sea offers one of West Africa’s greatest photo opportunities. End the day’s tour by visiting the Posuban Shrine in Elmina. At first glance, they may look like modern concrete sculptures only, but for people living in these communities, they mean a lot more. These sanctuaries were made by the Asafo companies as their local headquarters and as warehouses for weapons and for signs.The Asafo companies were traditional militias of the Akan cities; they had the task of defending cities and providing security services to the community. They also played an important role in local politics.The word Asafo derives from the word in Akan ‘sa’ that means “war” and from the word “fo” meaning “warriors,” so Afaso means “warriors of war.” Overnight at Coconut Grove Beach Resort. Day 8 August 12 - Wednesday – School of the Deaf

After breakfast, visit the Cape Coast School for the Deaf. Upon your arrival into the facility, you will be welcomed by a traditional cultural performance by the students with drumming and dance. The students at Cape Coast School for the Deaf have put their disability aside and keep the African traditional cultural performances alive. After the Welcome Ceremony, participate in some learning activities with the students and their tutors. Learn about sign language; engage in various games such as volleyball, football and more with the students. This insightful tour gives you a glimpse into the lives of local Ghanaians and those with disabilities. A donation will be made in your honour to the school. Overnight at Coconut Grove Beach Resort. Meals Included: Breakfast and Dinner.

Day 9 August 13 - Thursday – Elmina, Accra, Departure

After breakfast, spend the rest of the morning at leisure. Afterwards, check out of your hotel and depart to Accra. Upon arrival, transfer to the airport for check in and depart home.
