Day 1 Depart USA
Depart on your international flights
Day 2 Arrive Late Evening – Delhi
Welcome to India! You are met by our representative in the arrival area of the airport after you clear all immigration and customs formalities. Transfer to hotel for your stay.
Day 3 Delhi ‐ Jama Masjid / Chandi Chowk / Gurudwara / Humayun's Tomb / Qutub Minar
This morning, you'll visit the largest mosque in all India. Then enjoy a rickshaw ride tour of Chandni Chowk, the Moonlit Square. Continue on to visit Gurudwara, a Sikh temple and witness how they serve thousands through their public kitchen. You'll visit Humayun's Tomb, the first garden tomb in India. Then see Qutub Minar, a soaring minaret built by the Afghan dynasties that ruled India from the 1200's through 1526.
Day 4 Varanasi
Fly this morning to Varanasi, first inhabited in 1000 B.C. One of the most important pilgrimage sites, thousands flock to the Ganges River to wash away their sins. Dying here ensures an instant route to heaven. You'll visit the town of Sarnath, where Buddha is said to have preached his first sermon. Enjoy an evening river cruise on the Ganges in candle lit country boats.
Day 5 Morning River Cruise / Khajuraho
This morning, you'll sail along the Ganges and observe the various rituals of the Hindus performed at its banks. Then transfer to the airport for your flight to Khajuraho. Home to over 20 temples, Khajuraho was built in the Chandela Dynasty (10 ‐ 11th Centuries AD). The British discovered the temples in 1838, and they are protected by UNESCO designation. After touring the temples in the afternoon, return for a sound and light show that tells the story of the temples and those who built them.
Day 6 Orchha Fort / Jehangir Mahal / Agra
See the remains of the 16th Century capital of Rudra Singh. Continue on to the multi‐tiered Jehangir Mahal, built in 1606. Board a train for Agra.
Day 7 Agra and the Taj Mahal
Watch the sun rise over the Taj Mahal, built by Emperor Shahjahan in 1630, to hold the remains of his beloved Queen. Then travel to the Agra Fort, seat of the Mughal Empire. See the Hall of Public Audiences and Royal Pavilions. Walk the Roman Catholic Cemetery, dating to the 18th Century.
Day 8 Fatehpur Sikri / Jaipur
Set out for the abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikri, once a walled city of the Mughal dynasty. Continue on to the pink city of Jaipur.
Day 9 Jaipur
You'll visit the Amber Fort. Its white marble and red sandstone blends both Hindu and Mughal architecture. Continue to the observatory of Jantar Mantar, built by Aawai Singh in the 18th Century. From here, continue into the City Palace, home to the treasures of the past. The former royal family still lives in a portion of the palace.
Day 10 Shikara Boat Ride / Udaipur
Today you will cross the Aravalli Hills, an ancient mountain range to Lake Pichola. Enjoy a Shikara Boat Ride on the lake and see the City Palace from the lake.
Day 11 City Palace / Jagdish Temple
This morning, tour the City Palace of Udaipur. It is a mixture of medieval European and Chinese Architecture. Enter through the Hathi Pol ‐Elephant Gate. You'll visit the Jagdish Temple, and indo‐Aryan temple built in 1651. Fly this afternoon to Delhi (those taking the extension will fly to Mumbai).
