Depart the USA aboard your transatlantic flight.

Day 2 October 1 - Arrive in Amman (overnight in Amman)

You’ll be met and transferred to the hotel for dinner and overnight. (D)

Day 3 October 2 - Jerash / Umm Qais (overnight in Amman)

This morning you will journey to Jerash, one of the best preserved Roman cities in the world. Stroll through the oval piazza and wander along colonnaded streets etched by the wheels of ancient chariots. Stand in the grand theatre where an onstage whisper can be heard in the top row. Continue on to Umm Qais, one of the cities of the Decapolis of Jesus' day. Visit the ruins here, and enjoy views that stretch to the Sea of Galilee in the distance. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight. (B, D)

Day 4 October 3 - Amman / Madaba / Bethany Beyond Jordan (Amman)

Explore the city of Amman, known as Philadelphia in Roman times -- another of the ten cities of the Decapolis, and before that, as Rabbath Ammon.  Visit the Citadel Museum, whose exhibits include artifacts from prehistoric times until the 15th century AD, including a bronze Dead Sea scroll in Aramaic. Travel south to Madaba, the City of Mosaics, to visit the Church of Saint George with its sixth-century, Byzantine, mosaic map showing Jerusalem and other holy sites.  Stop at Bethany Beyond the Jordan, the traditional place where John the Baptist baptized Jesus.  Several baptismal pools dating back to Byzantine times can be seen here. Return to your hotel in Amman for dinner and overnight. (B, D)

Day 5 October 4 - Karak Castle Fortress / to Petra (Overnight in Petra)

Travel to Karak, a masterpiece of Crusader architecture.  The fort, high atop a promontory, is a maze of stone-vaulted halls and endless passageways.  Stop at Wadi Mousa, where a spring still pours from the rock though to have been struck by Moses. Finish the day in the modern town of Petra for dinner and overnight.  (B, D)

Day 6 October 5 - Petra (Overnight in Petra)

Spend the day exploring the city of Petra. Its entrance passes through a long, narrow gorge known as the Siq and can only be accessed by carriage, horseback or on foot. Once inside the city, marvel at the intricate detail of a city that was cut into the cliff sides of rose-colored rock. (B, D)

Day 7 October 6 - Petra (Overnight in Petra)

Enjoy breakfast at Wadi Rum in a Bedouin tent and experience the Wadi while enjoying a Jeep 4 x 4 ride.  Drive to visit Lot's Cave (Genesis 19).  Here Lot and his daughters are said to have sought refuge after the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.  Check in to your hotel at the Dead Sea for dinner and overnight.  (B, D)

Day 8 October 7 - Machaerus / Mount Nebo (overnight in Dead Sea)

Start the day at the fortress of Machaerus, where tradition says that John the Baptist was beheaded (Mark 6:17 -28).  Continue to Mount Nebo, where Moses caught a glimpse of the Promised Land (Deut. 34). On a clear day, you can see all the way across the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea, to the rooftops of Jerusalem and Bethlehem. Return to your hotel for time to float in the Dead Sea and enjoy the Resort before dinner and overnight. (B, D)    Some groups may have late night or early morning flights.

Day 9 October 8 - Return to USA

Return home.
