Day 1 August 2 - Depart USA
Day 2 August 3 - Arrive in Rome
Arrive in Rome; Panoramic City Drive, Free time for lunch on Navona Square area, a public open space in Rome. Have time for lunch with Pizza al taglio or maybe some Suppli. Don’t forget to grab an expresso, then take a walking tour to see Navona Square, built on the site of the Stadium of Domitian in the 1st century. Visit the Pantheon, a former Roman temple commissioned by Marcus Agrippa during the reign of Augustus, which is now a Roman Catholic church. See the beautiful Trevi Fountain, the largest Baroque fountain in the city and one of the most famous fountains in the world. Then climb the Spanish Steps built in 1723 to link the Trinita dei Monti church and the Bourbon Spanish Embassy to the Holy See. Afterwards, check into the hotel. Dinner tonight will be on your own. Start off with a real Italian delicacy of saltimbocca a la Romana or maybe porchetta. Set the standard high and enjoy gelato for dessert.
Day 3 August 4 - Rome
Guided full day tour of Rome including a visit inside of the Vatican Museums founded by Pope Julius II in the 16th century, which contains one of the largest art collections in the world. Visit the Sistine Chapel, originally known as the Cappella Magna (Great Chapel) and named after Pope Sixtus IV, who restored it between 1473 and 1481. It is known for being the site of the papal enclave for elections of popes and the marvelous frescos, most notably The Last Judgment by Michelangelo. Visit St. Peter’s Basilica, the most renowned work of Renaissance architecture in the world. After some free time for lunch and shopping in St. Peter’s area, continue with an inside visit of the Coliseum (with VIP access and tour of the arena floor). Return to the hotel and dinner on your own. There are lots of things on the menu, rigatoni carbonara or maybe bucantini amatriciana. Maybe you can find some profiteroles, maritozzi or cannoli for dessert.
Day 4 August 5 - Tuscany, Siena, San Gimignano
Check out of the hotel and transfer to Tuscany, where you will experience a guided walking tour of Siena. It’s main square has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. The cathedral here dates back to the 1200’s. Afterwards, you will have free time to explore the quaint town of San Gimignano, famous for its medieval architecture. It is known as the “Town of Fine Towers”, which form an unforgettable skyline. Later, we will travel to Florence. After checking into the hotel, you will have an opportunity to explore the culinary scene with dinner on your own. Maybe try the bistecca alla Fiorentina or the trippa & lampredotto. Don’t forget to try the tiramisu, zuccotto or schiacciata Fiorentina for dessert.
Day 5 August 6 - Florence & Lucca
In the morning, we will explore the beauty of Florence. We will visit the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, the Piazza della Signoria and Santa Croce Square. There will be some free time for shopping before we head out to a local farmhouse for a wine tasting lunch. After lunch, we will visit the town of Lucca, famous for its Renaissance-era city walls. After spending time exploring, we will head back to Rome to check in to the hotel. Tonight, you will continue to sample the Italian meal of your dreams as dinner is on your own. Maybe you can get a chance to try the tonnarelli cacio e pepe, carciofi alla Romana or the lasagna. Finish off the night with torta ricotta e visciole or tartufo for dessert.
Day 6 August 7 - Naples, Sorrento & Pompeii
Today, enjoy a panoramic drive as we travel to Naples and Sorrento. Our lunch today will be at a local farmhouse where we will have a mozzarella tasting lunch. In the afternoon, we will visit Pompeii. We will return to Rome for overnight and a final memorable meal on your own. Say ciao by feasting on pasta with classic red sauce, fettuccine alfredo or maybe spaghetti aglio e olio.
Day 7 August 8 - Return Home
Return to the airport for your return flight home.
