Day 2 Arrive in Turkey
Arrive and transfer to Pamukkale and overnight at Doga Thermal.
Day 3 LYCUS VALLEY : Colossae, Hierapolis, Laodicea In church history
Colossae had the distinction of being both the home of Philemon and Onesimus as well as the intended audience of Paul’s letter to the Colossians. You can still see traces of the theatre and the Necropolis. Laodicea, one of the Seven Churches mentioned in Revelation, was known for its banking, textiles, medical school and spiritual arrogance. Chastising the church for being neither hot nor cold, Jesus entreated them to repent: “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten…” (Rev. 3:15. 19). And visit Hierapolis. Stay overnight at Doga Thermal.
Day 4 Sardis & Pergamum via Philadelphia and Thyatira
Today’s itinerary includes two of the seven churches mentioned in Revelation (Rev.2:12). Sardis was known for its wealth and power as evidenced by the immense size of its temple of Artemis, massive gymnasium, and the largest synagogue of the ancient world. Like these once vibrant ruins, the Sardis church was dead even though it appeared alive. Travel on to Pergamum, whose church was condemned for tolerating “the deeds of the Nicolaitans” that Christ hated (Rev. 2:13-17). Pass through Pergamum’s Royal Gates to enter one of the great centers of classic Greek culture, including the foundations of the temples of Zeus, Athena, Trajan, and the library, which once held 200,000 parchment volumes. Explore the remains of the Grand Theatre and Gymnasium. You can view the fabled Acropolis, towering a thousand feet above the city. Stay overnight in Izmir at the Park Inn Radisson or similar.
Day 5 Ephesus
Ephesus is another of the Seven Churches of Revelation (Rev. 1:11). It was once a bustling port town graced with wide, colonnade-bordered streets and a population of 250,000. Although spectacular excavations have revealed the glory of ancient Ephesus, including the huge agora and library, much has been lost. The ancient world once declared the Temple of Artemis to be one of the Seven Wonders of the World but today, only a single column remains to mark its site. The Basilica of St. John, the traditional site of his grave, offers a compelling panorama of the area. Explore the Museum of Ephesus for an up-close look at ancient artifacts. You will have plenty of time to explore on your own and recreate some of the footsteps of Paul. Stay overnight in Izmir at the Park Inn Radisson or similar.
Day 6 Istanbul
Take an early morning flight to Istanbul. You will have a city tour including visits to Hippodrome Square, Blue Mosque, St.Sophia and the Egyptian Bazaar. Stay overnight at the Millenium Golden Horn or similar.
