Daily Itinerary

Day 1 January 22

Fly to Mexico City. Upon arrival you will be greeted by our English-speaking staff and transfer to your hotel. Welcome briefing and dinner at the hotel this evening. (D)

Day 2 January 23

Depart after breakfast this morning to the Plaza of the 3 Cultures – Tlatelolco – to see the Church of St. James where San Juan Diego presented the “tilma” of Our Lady to the Bishop as proof of her apparitions. See the ruins of Tlatelolco beside the church, and further on, the modern-day condominium complex – thus “3 cultures” – Pre-Hispanic, Colonial and Modern day. Continue to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe to see the new and the old Shrine, and a tour of the grounds. Afterwards, enjoy a 1-hour ride to the Pyramids of Teotihuacan where you will see the Pyramid of the Sun, the Moon and Quetzal-butterfly Temple, etc. Buffet lunch is served at a nearby Mexican restaurant with live music and native dancers. Return to the hotel in time for dinner at leisure. (B, L)

Day 3 January 24

Visit the renowned Museum of Anthropology to learn about Mexico´s pre-Hispanic archaeology and anthropology. Ride along the beautiful Reforma Blvd, the city´s main avenue, fashioned by the Emperor Maximilian after the Champs Elysee in Paris, during his brief reign in Mexico during the 1800s, continuing to the Church of the Holy Family where the remains of the martyred Miguel Pro are found. Then we will make a stop for lunch at a local restaurant near the Zocalo followed by a visit to the National Palace with its famous murals by Diego Rivera depicting the history of Mexico. Then walking across the square, you´ll see the ruins of Templo Mayor over which was built the Metropolitan Cathedral, Assumption of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven, the seat of the Catholic Archdiocese of Mexico. Walk back to your hotel for an evening at leisure. After dinner, witness the performance of the Mexican Folklore Ballet at the Palace of Fine Arts, Mexico´s opera house. (B, L)

Day 4 January 25

Today we have planned an out-of-town trip to the town of San Miguel del Milagro, known for its curative waters at the site of the apparition of St. Michael the Archangel in 1631 to Diego Lazaro. Continue to nearby Puebla, the so-called City of the Angels, to see the beautifully ornate Chapel of the Rosary in the Church of Santo Domingo, as well as the cathedral and other points of interest in the historic center. Lunch is held at a nearby hotel, famous for its mole (spicy chocolate sauce) served over cooked chicken or other options from which you are free to choose. In the afternoon, return to Mexico City – to the same hotel in time for dinner at leisure. (B, L)

Day 5 January 26

Today our program will take us south of the city to visit the Church of St. John the Baptist in the neighborhood of Coyoacan and the well-known “Casa Azul” where Frida Kahlo grew up and subsequently lived with her husband, Diego Rivera. Continue to the Floating Gardens of Mexico - “Xochimilco,” where you will climb aboard a gaily decorated gondola to be poled through the flower-laden canals while enjoying a box lunch on board, surrounded by numerous groups of mariachis, salterio, marimba etc. Return to the hotel late in the afternoon. This evening, enjoy the opportunity for a farewell dinner/show at the mariachi plaza – Garibaldi. (optional $$$) (B, L)

Day 6 January 27

In due time and in accordance with group flight departure, transfer to the airport for your flight back home. (B)
