Daily Itinerary

Day 1 September 12 – Depart the USA

Depart on your international overnight flight to Lisbon, Portugal.

Day 2 September 13 – Arrive in Lisbon, Santarem, and Fátima

Upon arrival in Lisbon, your pilgrimage begins with a warm welcome from your local tour director. Visit St. Anthony’s Church, a beloved spiritual site built over the location believed to be the birthplace of St. Anthony of Padua. Here, you will tour the church and its museum. Afterward, travel to Santarem. Here, the Church of St. Stephen was the site of a Holy Miracle in the 12th century. The crystal pyx can be seen at the renamed Church of the Holy Miracle. Continue to Fátima, where you will check into our hotel and then celebrate Mass in one of the chapels at the Sanctuary of Fátima complex. There is an opportunity to participate in the candlelight procession while in Fátima. (B, D)

Day 3 September 14 – Fátima

Visit the basilica, where the three children (Lucia lived to adulthood) are interred. You will then journey to the countryside, where Mary appeared to Francisco and Jacinta Marto, and their cousin Lucia dos Santos, every month from May 13, 1917 until October 13, when she appeared at Valinhos. You will see their homes nearby, where Francisco died in 1919. Jacinta died in a hospital in 1920. (B, D)

Day 4 September 15 – Ávila

After breakfast, the group will then enjoy a guided tour of Ávila’s religious treasures, including the Monastery of the Incarnation, where St. Teresa lived for many years; the impressive Cathedral of Ávila, integrated into the city’s fortified walls; and the Convent of St. Teresa, built on the site of her birthplace. The afternoon is left open for leisure, offering time to explore the city’s medieval streets, visit the city walls, or reflect quietly. Dinner will be enjoyed in Ávila. (B, D)

Day 5 September 16 – Burgos and Loyola

This morning, you will explore Burgos, where we will pass through the Arco de Santa Maria, an ornate gateway built to honor Charles V through the old city walls. Visit the Gothic Cathedral, which was begun in 1221. This is a pilgrimage church on the Camino de Santiago. Travel to Azpeitia, in Spain’s Basque Country, the birthplace of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuit Order. Upon arrival, you will visit the Loyola Sanctuary, including the grand Basilica of St. Ignatius and his family home. A private Mass will be celebrated at the Chapel of Conversion, the very place where St. Ignatius experienced his profound spiritual transformation. If time allows, the group will enjoy a brief guided walking tour of the town of Azpeitia before gathering for dinner at a local restaurant. (B, D)

Day 6 September 17 – Travel to Lourdes

This morning, you will journey through the Pyrenees to Lourdes. Here, Mary appeared to Bernadette Soubirous 18 times in 1858. It has become a place of pilgrimage for millions of faithful people each year, and the spring water from the grotto is believed to possess healing properties. While in Lourdes, you will have the opportunity to participate in the afternoon processional and the evening candlelight processional. Check into your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay. (B, D)

Day 7 September 18 – Lourdes

Today, you will celebrate Mass in one of the chapels here at the sanctuary. Then, enjoy a walking tour of the sanctuary grounds and then to the homes of Bernadette and her family. This afternoon, you will have free time to enjoy the healing waters baths or explore more of the town on your own, from the various apparition sites to the castle fort that affords panoramic views of the sanctuary and the Pyrenees. Return to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay. (B, D)

Day 8 September 19 – Free Time in Lourdes

Enjoy a free morning in Lourdes to experience the healing waters, follow the paths to the various apparition sites, or spend the day in meditation and contemplation. This afternoon, take the TGV train to Paris. Check into your hotel. Dinner will be on your own this evening. (B)

Day 9 September 20 – Paris

This morning, we’ll celebrate Mass at the Chapel of the Miraculous Medal on Rue de Bac. St. Catherine was visited by Mary three times in 1830, which encouraged a revival in devotion to the church. She served people experiencing poverty in Paris for 46 years, and when her body was exhumed, it was found incorrupt. The Miraculous Medal is based on a design given by Mary to St. Catherine. Then we’ll head to the Ile de la Cité, home to Notre Dame. This 850-year-old Gothic Cathedral remains the center of the French and their faith. From here, we’ll visit Saint Chapelle, the private chapel of kings, illuminated with streams of colored light through towering stained-glass windows. Then we will journey across the Seine to the Chapel of St. Vincent de Paul. Then we’ll head north through the city, past the Place de la Concorde (once home to the guillotine during the French Revolution), to La Madeleine, which contains a relic of Mary Magdalene. This picturesque church serves as a popular venue for weddings. Then take a ride up the funicular to Montmartre and Sacre Coeur. This cathedral looks out over Paris from the place where St. Denis was martyred. While here, wander the art shops and stores that line the streets. Dinner is on your own. (B)
