Day 3 October 14 – Wittenberg
This morning, enjoy a free morning exploring Wittenberg. After lunch, begin your guided tour of the city. It was here in 1517 that Martin Luther nailed his famous 95 Theses to the door of Castle Church (Schlosskirche). Make your way to St. Mary's Church, where Luther regularly preached. Luther's former home is now a Reformation Museum. Then, visit the home of Philipp Melanchthon, a contemporary of Martin Luther. Return to your hotel in Wittenberg for dinner and overnight.
Day 4 October 15 – Erfurt
We'll drive to Erfurt and have free time for lunch. We'll visit St. Mary's Cathedral, St. Severin's Church and the famous Merchant's Bridge, then tour the Augustinian Monastery where Luther became a monk on July 17, 1505. We will be able to see his monastic quarters, including one cell furnished to look as it would have when he lived there. At the end of the tour we will have a group time in the chapel. Head into Erfurt for dinner and overnight.
Day 5 October 16 – Eisenach
This morning, make your way to Wartburg Castle, where Luther took refuge after his friend, Frederick III of Saxony, staged Luther's kidnapping. We will tour the Wartburg and see where Luther finished translating the New Testament into German. Luther spent time in the nearby town of Eisenach as a schoolboy and sang in the choir of St. George's Church, where the Bach family also worshiped. Enjoy free time this afternoon with the option to explore Eisenach at your leisure, including the Bach House, the Luther House, and St. George's Church. Head to Mainz for dinner and overnight.
Day 6 October 17 – Mainz & Strasbourg
Begin your day with a tour of the Gutenberg Museum and the Cathedral in Mainz. Continue through the city of Strasbourg, where Reformer John Calvin pastored French Huguenot refugees, got married, and wrote a second edition of his famous book, the Institutes. Take time to explore the city on your own before heading to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 7 October 18 – Constance
Make your way along the border of three different countries: France, Germany, and Switzerland! Take a drive through the Black Forest region to Switzerland's border. Then, make your way to Constance, where you will have the opportunity to see where the pre-Reformer Jan Hus was martyred and stand in the very Cathedral where some of the trials were held. Check into your hotel in Constance for dinner and overnight.
Day 8 October 19 – Zurich & Geneva
Today you will make your way across the border to Switzerland, stopping in Zurich. Make your way to several Reformation sites connected to Zwingli and the Anabaptists. Take a tour of the Grossmünster, where you will get a chance to see the Helferei (where Zwingli lived) as well as the Zwingli Statue. Take a stroll through the historic Auld Stadt (old city). Then, make your way on a scenic drive through Switzerland to Geneva. Head to your hotel in Geneva for dinner and overnight.
Day 9 October 20 – Geneva
